Kashmir Valley witnessed shutdown called by Unified Separatist Group under the banner of joint resistance leadership (JRL)
Yesterday in a deadly encounter seven militants have been killed in two separate encounters in South Kashmir districts. One civilian and one army soldier also had a fatal during and post gunfight.
Additional government forces personnel including Jammu and Kashmir police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at several places across the Kashmir valley including the capital city Srinagar in anticipation of “pro-freedom” protests and clashes.
Authorities have also imposed restrictions in some towns in southern Kashmir and in the old parts of the Srinagar city. Shops and businesses are closed while public transport is mostly off the roads.
In a nocturnal encounter on Sunday, police said, it killed three top commanders among six militants of Lashkar and Hizb, while a Territorial Army soldier from Kashmir’s Kulgam, was also killed in the firefight in Batgund area of Kapran in Shopian of South Kashmir.
