Shopian: After the killing of three policemen in South Kashmir’s Shopian district this morning, a couple of purported videos are making rounds on social media networking sites showing cops announcing their resignations.
Two Constables and a Special Police Officer (SPOs) were abducted and killed by militants from Kaprin and Batagund area of Shopian district. The brother of slain Constable Nisar Ahmed, who was also abducted along with the three personnel, was set free. The abductions were made from the houses of the policemen in two villages.
The bodies of these abducted cops were found by locals in Dangam village. They were identified as SPO Kuldeep Singh son of Doopsingh, Constable Firdous Ahmed Kuchey son of Abdul Gani Kuchay, both residents of Batagund Shopian and Constable Nisar Ahmed Dhobi son of Abdul Rashid Dhobi, a resident of Kaprin Shopian. Jammu Kashmir Police condemned these killings.
Earlier, Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Riyaz Naiko had issued a threat to the SPO’s warning them of dire consequences in case they don’t abdicate their job.
A police official said that the killings is the handiwork of militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen to create panic among local cops.
At least eight people whose relatives worked in Jammu and Kashmir Police were abducted on the night of 30 August.
After the killing of three cops, a number of SPO’s and Constables took to social media announcing their resignations. These videos are viral and being extensively shared by netizens in Kashmir Valley.
Some of the cops whose purported videos announcing resignations have gone viral included Tajala Hussain Lone of Batag, Shabir Ahmed Thokar of Samnu, Irshad Yousuf of Dangam, and Nawaz Lone of Tangan Kulgam.
A police official said that they don’t know anything about these resignations. “We are trying to ascertain the facts,” he added.
